Merka
– This Friday at Brown Alley !
The freshest after work social spot in the CBD returns ! Be sure
to come to Brown Alley and chill out after work to the finest
house, breaks & electro in a lively, upbeat environment with
comfortable seating areas and stylish, modern surrounds.
Where quality acts of all genres entertain a vibrant and friendly
crowd. When the sun sets the party begins !
This week is UK breaks heavyweight Merka ! After a quiet life
growing up playing the piano in the country with the birds, the
influence of drum and bass and a move to England's capital inspired
a transition that has seen Mark Merka become one the front runners
in the new sound of breakbeat. In 2003 Future Funk Squad's Re:connect
Records were the first to commit his bass-lines to plastic, which
led to a signing at Paul Arnold's Fat! stable. Releasing some
genre bending monsters to great acclaim has amounted to 'Beserka',
the first ever artist album on the long running breakbeat institution,
released in March '07.

Always
sourcing fresh material, Spacey specialises in dropping loads
of wobbly House Music, selected R’N’B re-edits, bits

the floor. Listeners dance as though possessed, only stopping
when, overcome by the power of Spacey’s set, they stand
still and weep. |

HANS DC
|
| |
While
many DJ’s today are involved in one way or another in music
production, Hans-DC is still happy to play other peoples music.
“There is so much music out there, why would I want to create
more?”.
One of the original founders of Melbourne’s infamous ‘Beats
Working Crew’, Hans has learnt that it’s not just
about the music but also the environment in which you play in.
He says that a good night out has a balance of everything.
These days he earns his keep by honing his skills with
weekly residencies at Revolver and Blue Bar playing marathon party
hip-hop sets. “The more I play, the more I realise that
the learning curve never ends which |
| inspires
me to work harder, which can only be a good thing in the end….
I hope!” Hans also spins regularly
at credible parties such as Sunny (Side Up), Rainbow Serpent Festival,
Earthcore and more… |

DJ FERRIS
|
| |
So
what kind of DJ has a name like Ferris you ask? If I was to reply
‘the kind of DJ that also rides bulls at a rodeo’
you’d get some kind of idea about the guy. Many DJs describe
themselves as ‘adventurous’ but Ferris personifies
the word as both a DJ and a person. Like so many of today’s
greats such as Danny Tenaglia and Anthony Pappa, Ferris shared
his time between club and mobile gigs, the mobile gigs being a
DJs ultimate test of crowd-pleasing abilities. Ferris was in the
midst of a scene full of passionate people who made and mixed
quality music…and he was thriving. His mix of deep, tribal,
progressive and breaks making sure people |
took
note wherever he played. His list of gigs include 3D, Darkbeat,
Fokus, Sonar, KinetiK, Earthcore, Freebase, Scubar , Sunday Skool
Fathom and Sunny. |
